Cal Poly

Professional Certificate

What is the Professional Certificate?

The professional certificate in Printed Electronics and Functional Imaging is a course of study comprised of five courses that is: a) instructor-led by Cal Poly professors; b) fully accredited and transcripted; c) and offered entirely online. This graduate level program provides high-quality education with an expert in the field. Learn alongside a group of peers who share the interest and a desire to learn about functional printing. Using best practices in online education, this program will prepare you with the knowledge you need to succeed in this rapidly growing field.

How do I enroll?

All professional certificate applicants must file a complete application by following the Interfolio Link. Applications can be completed anytime throughout the year. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information along with un-official transcripts of all previous academic work attempted. Failure to file complete, accurate, and authentic documents may result in denial of admission, cancellation of academic credit, suspension, or expulsion (Section 41301, Article 1.1, Title 5, California Code of Regulations).

If you reside outside of California, please read State Authorization for Distance Education.

May I enroll in a single course?

Yes. While the professional certificate is awarded to those who complete all five courses, there is freedom to enroll in one or more courses. The survey course (GrC 501) is a prerequisite to all professional certificate courses.

What can I expect to be prepared to do with a Professional Certificate in Printed Electronics and Functional Imaging?

The professional certificate provides online coursework leading to understanding of the design and deployment of mass-scale manufacturing of functional printed products. Students completing the certificate will learn what is involved in producing printed electronics, active packaging, and security items – the equipment needed, the environmental conditions needed, process control requirements, and the techniques used to produce items within tolerance. Through world-class, instructor-led, online education, students will engage in the design of printed electronics files and will see printed electronics being produced. Students are also encouraged to interact with local manufacturers to acquire additional real-world exposure to production of printed electronics, active packaging, and security printing. Certificate students or scholars will be prepared to impact their existing business or move into high-technology companies with a better understanding of functional printing.
